  17. <p>     "I wouldn't be treated like another room number," decreed
  18. Leona Helmsley in an imperious ad for one of her Manhattan
  19. hotels. Yet this week the 71-year-old symbol of '80s avarice
  20. becomes another number in federal prison as she begins a
  21. four-year stretch for tax fraud (barring a successful final
  22. appeal). In last-ditch efforts to stay out of jail, she sought
  23. sympathy clad in a bathrobe during a Barbara Walters interview,
  24. as celebrity solicitor Alan Dershowitz argued in court that she
  25. was convicted on forged documents. The judge was unmoved. "It's
  26. an Al Capone sentence," says Dershowitz, calling the severe
  27. sentence punishment for Helmsley's boss-from-hell image.
